2020 has brought a whirlwind of challenges, one of which was rethinking our approach to fundraising. Bye-bye ice cream socials and art shows (at least temporarily).
Despite some setbacks as a result of the pandemic, Our Stomping Ground hosted three successful virtual fundraising events, staying true to our mission, having fun and of course, staying safe.
In October we faced local ghosts and ghouls when we partnered with Let’s Roam, and challenged each other to a spooky scavenger hunt through Washington D.C.. Participants either roamed from home online, or searched the city in person (socially distanced).
November put us to the test with an at-home trivia competition organized with District Trivia. We tested our collective smarts over Zoom with a drink in hand. A little friendly competition never hurt anybody!
December brought a much needed “trip” to Italy where we enjoyed a taste of Sicily. In partnership with The Italian Store and Impero Wine Distributors, we hosted an exquisite virtual wine tasting event. Guests enjoyed three bottles of hand selected Sicilian wines paired with Italian delicacies, all while guided by Giuseppe, our expert sommelier, who joined us from Sicily at midnight!
With the help of our community and those who joined us for each event, we managed to raise nearly $20k in the past three months!
We cannot express enough our gratitude to those who have made this possible. Every single dollar is helping us to build inclusive communities for adults with developmental disabilities. Together, we are making a difference. So on behalf of all our adults, thank you.
